Number of scales are the "wrong" color; white, yellow, buff, or dark blue; and scattered about indiscriminately. No two specimens are marked alike; some are only slightly spotted, but others are heavily speckled. Ground color may be black, bluish, olive, or tan. Scales smooth ; anal divided.
Similar species: Speckled King snake is shiny, has a single anal plate , and the specs are small (several would fit upon one scale).
